This initiative supports the University’s commitment to achieving its net carbon zero strategy targets and fostering renewable electricity generation within the New Zealand market. The University currently consumes approximately 75 GWh of electricity annually across its campuses. This demand is expected to increase as a result of the University’s decarbonisation programme, which includes transitioning away from natural gas. The University footprint is also expanding with a number of new developments coming online in the next five years, further increasing demand for energy. The RFI is designed to: • Explore innovative and sustainable energy solutions currently available or in development. • Understand supplier capabilities and solutions available, relevant experience, health and safety, corporate and social sustainability, product/service specific sustainability, technology, and solution resiliency. • Identify potential partners for a future procurement process. It should be noted that the University is not requesting detailed proposals or pricing at this stage. Instead, the RFI serves as a preliminary step to inform the University’s understanding of available solutions and to shortlist respondents for a subsequent closed Request for Proposals (RFP) process, currently planned for publication in the fourth quarter of 2025. The successful service providers will demonstrate the capacity, depth of experience, and a proven track record in developing grid-scale renewable energy projects and operating sleeved PPAs or other similar arrangements for large organisations.
