Independent Review of the Office of the DND/CAF Ombudsman

Description

The Department of National Defence (DND) requires an independent third party to conduct a comprehensive review of the Office of the DND/Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Ombudsman. The objective of this independent review is to examine the governance structure and authorities of the Office of the Ombudsman and benchmark the DND/CAF with the experience and practices of ombudsman functions from within the Government of Canada, other levels of government, and other similar democracies, including similar functions in allies’ militaries. This effort will help take forward Justice Fish’s Recommendation #103 to consider whether additional measures are needed to reinforce the Office of the Ombudsman’s independence and effectiveness.
