Description
Measurement Canada is responsible for ensuring accuracy in the purchase and sale of measured goods (trade measurement). This is achieved by administering and enforcing the Weights and Measures Act, Electricity and Gas Inspection Act (Acts) and associated regulations. Legislative programs and services include type approval and inspection of scales, gas pumps, electricity and natural gas meters and other measuring devices, and investigation of complaints of suspected inaccurate measurement. As part of legislative program and service delivery, Measurement Canada inspectors and authorized service providers (private sector organizations recognized by Measurement Canada to perform device inspections under the authority of the Acts) apply a visual indication (sticker) when a measuring device has been inspected and was found to be is measuring accurately and in compliance with the appropriate Act and regulations. The inspection sticker provides a visual indication to consumers that the measuring device has been inspected and certified as measuring accurately and that the business was in compliance with the Acts and regulations at the time of inspection. Stickers may also be applied as official seals to provide a visual indication if an adjustment has been made to a device that could affect its measurement accuracy.
