The introduction of this instrument will provide dedicated capacity for routine phase identification, thereby alleviating demand on the heavily utilised SmartLab system. This will significantly enhance operational efficiency and ensure that both advanced and routine users are better supported. This procurement is an integral investment in UC’s academic mission. The PXRD will not only underpin high-quality teaching and student training but also expand the University’s ability to generate research income by delivering additional analytical capacity for external partners. PXRD instrumentation constitutes fundamental research support infrastructure and is a critical requirement for internationally competitive research programs in chemistry, physics, geology, and engineering. Such instruments are recognised as essential components of research laboratories both in New Zealand and globally, reflecting their central role in advancing knowledge and innovation. The primary objective of this procurement is to increase accessibility to high-resolution and accurate PXRD measurements, enabling UC to better respond to the evolving demands of its research environment. This investment will ensure that our researchers, students, and collaborators have access to the analytical tools necessary to drive excellence in science and engineering.
