Introduction Country : Kazakhstan Description of the Assignment: National Consultant on Conducting an Analysis of the Relationship between Biodiversity and Human Mobility in the Republic of Kazakhstan Period of assignment: No more than 70 working days (tentatively July - December 2026) Place of Work: Home-based Contract type: Individual Contract PROJECT DESCRIPTION In 2025–2026, UNDP Kazakhstan, jointly with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, completed the preparation of the National Biodiversity Conservation Concept and the Seventh National Report of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Biodiversity in accordance with the requirements of the Convention on Biological Diversity. However, the human mobility factor (including population migration, transport flows, tourism, and seasonal movements) was not identified as a separate driver affecting biodiversity. Given the increasing trends in internal and international migration, the expansion of transport and tourism infrastructure, and the growing anthropogenic pressure on ecosystems, there is a need for a dedicated study focusing on the analysis of the relationship between human mobility and biodiversity. Within the framework of the "Umbrella Programme to Support the Update of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and the Preparation of the Seventh National Report" a national consultant will be engaged to conduct an analysis of the relationship between biodiversity and human mobility in Kazakhstan, taking into account existing international practices and approaches in this field.
