Für den Betrieb einer optischen Gitteruhr bedarf es eines Spektroskopielasers zur Abfrage der atomaren Übergangsfrequenz. Für die verwendeten Atome (Ytterbium) muss dieser auf dem Ührenübergang bei 578 nm erfolgen. Die Stabilität der optischen Gitteruhr ist dabei direkt beeinflusst durch den Spektroskopielaser, wofür ein ultrastabilier Resonator benötigt wird.
