Student achievement in science has declined over time, as evidenced by international measures such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This initiative responds to that challenge by providing high-quality, standardised science and pūtaiao resources that support consistent and effective teaching across all schools and kura and aims to improve equity in science and pūtaiao education outcomes across all state and state-integrated schools and kura, Years 0–8. Strong science and pūtaiao education is essential for New Zealand’s future. It drives economic growth by fostering innovation, developing a skilled workforce, and promoting technological advancement. A more comprehensive and equitable science and pūtaiao education system is vital for New Zealand’s global competitiveness and its ability to respond to emerging challenges.
