Tender summary
The Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) has developed an Invasive Species Program to support the objectives outlined in the Virginia Invasive Species Management Plan to mitigate the negative impacts of invasive plants, pests, and pathogens in Virginia’s forests. DOF will provide statewide coordination of invasive species management in Virginia, working with other state agencies and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) organizations are an important partner in this effort. Grants are available to Virginia PRISMs for projects that fit into one or more of the following categories:DOF Invasive Species Program Priorities:Suppression of priority species: species for which eradiation/slowing the spread is still feasible, OR species that are a priority in Virginia due to their ecological/economic impactDemonstration sites: public land that showcases proper invasive species management.Landowner assistance: increased resources to assist landowners with invasive plant identification and control.Outreach and education: material to expand invasive species awarenessAwards are provided through Virginia Invasive Species funds. There is approximately $160,000 available for distribution. Any PRISM operating in Virginia may apply. Federal entities are not eligible and funds may not be used on federal land.
