<p>The Canopy Actuated Release Bolt (CARB), used on the F-16 aircraft, is a Critical Safety Item (CSI) essential for aircrew survival. The CARB consists of a high-strength steel body that is configured with an internal passage for the explosive train, a port at each end for the attachment of a Detonation Transfer Assembly (DTA), and two circumferential grooves. The explosive train consists of two base charges, four transfer charges, and an interconnecting charge. Failure of the CARB could result in serious injury or death. </p>
