Tender summary
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), in collaboration with the Digital Services Group (DSG), has identified an operational requirement for the immediate procurement of five (5) Viasat Mojo Mini NEXT transit case systems, purpose-built to house and support the KOR-24A Small Tactical Terminal (STT) in deployable Link 16 communications environments and options to procure up to four (4) additional within the next fiscal calendar year. These systems will directly support the RCAF’s need for rapidly deployable, self-contained, and airline-checkable communications kits, enabling effective use of Link 16 Tactical Data Link (TDL) capabilities across operational and training scenarios. This procurement will allow the RCAF Data Link Weapon Systems Manager (DLWSM) to field additional STTs in support of TDL 400 training, distributed operations, and contingency deployments, without requiring additional integration engineering or infrastructure upgrades. Deployable Link 16 terminals, such as the KOR-24A STT, require specialized enclosures capable of supporting the radio’s power, cooling, and RF interface requirements in a compact, rugged form factor. These systems must provide clean, conditioned power, effective thermal management, and shielded RF and I/O connectivity — all in a package that is small and light enough for single-operator transport and airline check-in. The Mojo Mini NEXT, developed by Viasat, is the successor to the original Mojo Mini, which is used already by the CAF for fielded STTs. It provides a purpose-built, turnkey platform for housing the STT, delivering integrated support for M-Code GPS, crypto fill, and multi-network Link 16 configurations. Generic Pelican cases or rack-mounted alternatives lack the necessary integration of power conditioning, EMI shielding, GPS timing support, and cooling, and often exceed transportability limits or require significant modification and validation to support secure TDL operations. The Mojo Mini NEXT has been selected as the only available case system that meets the RCAF’s technical, interoperability, and small team deployable requirements. The RCAF Data Link Weapon Systems Manager (DLWSM) has identified the following minimum operational and technical requirements to support this procurement: Must support full operational integration of the KOR-24A STT, including all necessary I/O and antenna interfaces; Must include clean AC/DC power conditioning and distribution to meet STT power draw specifications; Must include active cooling capable of maintaining performance under sustained Link 16 transmission; Must include RF- and EMI-shielded pass-through panels, including connections for Link 16 RF, M-Code GPS, Ethernet, crypto fill, and serial control; Must be compatible with M-Code GPS timing receivers, providing isolated and filtered antenna signal pass-through; Must be a turnkey system, requiring no custom integration, bracket fabrication, or external cabling; Must be airline-checkable, with total system weight under 50 lbs for global transportability; Must be a follow-on design to the fielded Mojo Mini, maintaining form-fit compatibility and simplifying user transition.
