Established in 1994, the kura operates as a Te Aho Matua special character school, embedding Māori language, culture, values, and worldviews across all aspects of teaching and learning. It offers a whānau-centred, holistic educational environment that prioritises student wellbeing, cultural identity, and leadership development, and plays a critical role in sustaining Māori-medium education pathways and te reo Māori revitalisation in Ōtepoti and wider Otago. The kura requires additional teaching spaces due to an increasing student roll.
