Summary
This Technical Assistance (TA) is financed under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) mandate, through the “GEF Mediterranean Pollution Hot Spots Technical Assistance”, signed between EIB and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) on 28 June 2022. The TA will support the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities in conducting a feasibility study for the assessment, rehabilitation, extension and upgrade of the Al-Hanovil, El-Zarqa and Kafr El Battikh wastewater treatment plants in the Alexandria and Damietta Governorates in Egypt to serve the needs of the local population up to the year 2050. In addition to the technical feasibility, the TA will assess the environmental and social impacts of possible future investment projects, and describe the necessary actions to bring the project to implementation after the TA Assignment is completed. The team of key-experts conducting this Assignment will include a team leader, a Wastewater Treatment Specialist, a Sewerage Networks/Sanitation Expert and an Economist/Financial Analyst.
