Swamp Creek Bridge was one such asset damaged. Although temporarily repaired as part of Tranche 1 of the Programme, full bridge replacement in a more resilient location is planned for Tranche 2. Swamp Creek Bridge (Fiordland National Park) is located on the Hollyford Track, approximately 45min walk from the trailhead on the Lower Hollyford Road. The Swamp Creek site previously had two bridges: the main 18m alloy truss bridge and a smaller steel truss bridge over an adjacent water channel. The 2020 floods destroyed the smaller steel truss bridge, but the 18m bridge was unaffected. However, the resilience of the existing bridge is relatively low, hence this project is a longer-term solution for this site. A Detailed Business Case (DBC) for this project was approved on 12 May 2025. It allows for the construction of a new, 59 m long Swamp Creek suspension bridge in a more resilient location. The existing bridge will be removed from site and repurposed at another yet to be determined location. The purpose of this procurement is to source a construction contractor to build a new Swamp Creek Bridge. The scope of the works is therefore to: 1) Supply and construction of the 59m span Swamp Creek suspension bridge (as per approved design and specifications), and 2) All associated establishment, disestablishment, and other works necessary to complete the bridge construction works (to the agreed design and specification). 3) Minor track works (to connect bridge to existing track).
