As part of this programme, rapidly delivered solutions to increase inpatient capacity will be required to address some of the most pressing acute healthcare needs. The initial requirement includes 28-bed inpatient units at Hawke’s Bay Hospital (Hastings) and Nelson Hospital. At least two more inpatient units at different sites will follow these initial projects, with further potential for other rapid capacity expansion projects over the next three years. In June, Health NZ intends to issue a Registration of Interest (ROI) calling for the best ideas on how to provide solutions that provide urgent capacity in a range of different scenarios. We expect the suppliers shortlisted through the ROI to possess the necessary capacity, proven capability, and expertise to deliver a nationwide programme of rapidly delivered standardised inpatient units as well as other interim expansion projects or alternative capacity solutions. This process represents a critical opportunity for well-positioned market participants to contribute to the future of New Zealand’s healthcare infrastructure and establish enduring partnerships with Health NZ.
