Tender summary

The project shall assess the economic and commercial viability of flexibility from large, single point industrial loaders in the Nordic power system, with a time perspective until 2040. The project shall estimate costs and timelines to increase flexibility as well as identify potential barriers for the successful development of this flexibility. Two main results are expected of the project: • A better understanding of the potential flexibility contribution in different industry sectors, including new or growing industries, where flexibility is localised and how quickly it can be developed (cost efficiently), depending on investment cycles, for example. This will make planning easier for market parties and online companies. • Identification of unnecessary obstacles and cost drivers in the development of new flexibility, which provides essential information for regulators and other decision makers. This information forms the basis for choosing the most appropriate flexibility strategy. The aim is to develop a thorough analysis that can form the basis for concrete recommendations that can inform policy design, market design and industrial strategies in the Nordic countries, at the same time as the analysis stimulates a broader interest in industrial flexibility and the commercial possibilities among the industrial sectors.
